  • Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Called Out for Trolling US Congress During Misinformation Hearing

During the hearing, Dorsey tweeted “?” with a poll asking Twitter users to vote “yes” or “no.”

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey tweeted his frustration with US lawmakers’ questions on the social media platform during a hearing about misinformation on Thursday, leading one member of congress to call out his multi-tasking.

Lawmakers grilled Dorsey and the CEOs of Facebook and Google’s parent Alphabet for almost five hours. Tensions were high as they asked them to answer “yes or no” to questions ranging from whether their platforms bore any responsibility for the January 6 riot to whether they understood the difference between the two words.

During the hearing, Dorsey tweeted “?” with a poll asking Twitter users to vote “yes” or “no.” Democratic Representative Kathleen Rice asked: “Mr. Dorsey, what is winning, yes or no, on your Twitter account poll?”

Dorsey told her that “yes” was winning, to which she replied: “Your multi-tasking skills are quite impressive.”

    • Big Tech CEOs and US Lawmakers Clash Over Disinformation

Facebook Inc CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai were also witnesses at the joint hearing by two subcommittees of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Lawmakers from both parties tried throughout the hearing to pin down the tech CEOs with questions needing only “yes” or “no” answers, interrupting them when they tried to give longer ones. Lawmakers quizzed the executives over concerns from COVID-19 misinformation, harassment, hate speech and extremism.

As the hearing took place, Dorsey also liked tweets criticising aspects of the session, including asking why members of Congress were mispronouncing Pichai’s name, and replied to a tweet confirming that he was barefoot during the call. His poll on Thursday afternoon had more than 71,000 votes.

  • Tesla’s Chinese Rival Nio Temporarily Halts Electric Vehicle Production Due to Chip Shortage

Nio now expects to deliver 19,500 vehicles in the first quarter, down from a 20,000 to 20,500 range previously.

hinese electric vehicle maker Nio became the latest carmaker to temporarily suspend production on Friday as a result of a global semiconductor chip shortage that has led to major losses. Ford Motor, Honda Motor, General Motors and Volkswagen were among the automakers caught off guard by the shortage, forcing many to hold back production even as car demand picked up during the pandemic. Chip shortages have cost the global auto industry 130,000 vehicles in lost production, research firm AutoForecast Solutions estimates, with the heaviest impact in North America, with 74,000 units lost, and Western Europe, with 35,000 lost. The chip scarcity is also a result of an increased demand from the consumer electronics industry as people worked from home and played more video games during the crisis

Sanctions against Chinese technology companies have also played a role. Nio, one the main challengers to Tesla, which dominates the EV market in China, said it would halt production for five working days at its Hefei plant and cut its first-quarter delivery forecast by as much as 1,000 vehicles. Shares of Nio, which makes the ES8 and ES6 electric sport-utility vehicles, were down more than 8 percent in the US mid-afternoon trading. Nio, which also faces competition from home-grown rivals such as Xpeng, now expects to deliver 19,500 vehicles in the first quarter, down from a 20,000 to 20,500 range previously. Ford had warned the shortage could hit its 2021 profit by up to $2.5 billion (roughly Rs. 1.81 lakh crores), while larger the US automaker GM expects the crisis to shave up to $2 billion (roughly Rs. 1.44 lakh crores) off its full-year profit.

Ford, which was until now assembled its highly profitable F-150 without certain parts, said on Thursday it will idle production of the trucks at a plant in Michigan through Sunday. GM and Japan’s Honda both said this week they would continue production suspension at plants in North America for the coming weeks. Swedish truck maker Volvo AB meanwhile said on Tuesday the chip shortage would have a “substantial” impact on its second-quarter earnings, and it would implement stop days across its sites globally beginning in April.

  • Mi Smart Band 6 to Be Launched Globally on March 29, Xiaomi Announces

Mi Smart Band 6 is expected to feature a 1.1-inch display and have the same design as the Mi Band 5.

Mi Smart Band 6 will be unveiled on March 29, Xiaomi has announced through a tweet. The company will be hosting a product launch event where it will unveil the successor to the Mi Band 5 that was launched in June last year. Mi Band 5 was launched globally as Mi Smart Band 5 in September last year. Xiaomi did not share any specifications for Mi Smart Band 6 but it is expected to carry the same design as its predecessor.

Xiaomi took to Twitter to announce it will be launching Mi Smart Band 6 on March 29 at 7:30pm GMT (5pm IST). That’s about all the information the company shared and details about Mi Smart Band 6 are still a mystery. Mi.com has an EU Declaration of Conformity page where it has listed Mi Smart Band 6 with model number XMSH15HM, along with an image of the smart band and the charging cable. Mi Smart Band 6 seems to have the same design as Mi Band 5 and may come in the same black colour variant.

    • Mi Smart Band 5 Review

According to a tweet by known tipster Mukul Sharma from last month, Mi Smart Band 6 was spotted on Indonesian Telecom certification website as well as Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, hinting at an imminent India launch. As for the specifications, back in January, the model number XMSH15HM was spotted in the Zepp app that showed it will have all the features present in the current Mi Band 5 — an SpO2 sensor, Alexa support, and feature a 1.1-inch screen. It may come with 30 activity modes including dance, cricket, Zumba, kickboxing, and basketball.

As of now, Xiaomi has not shared any details about Mi Smart Band 6 and there are only leaks and speculations at this point. • Mi 11 Ultra Alleged Geekbench Listing Shows 12GB RAM and Android 11 Ahead of March 29 Launch

Mi 11 Ultra will feature a Silicon-Oxygen Anode battery that is similar to what is seen in electric cars.

Mi 11 Ultra has been allegedly spotted in a Geekbench listing that offers a glimpse at some of the purported phone’s key specifications. The phone will be a top-of-the line offering in the Mi 11 series that currently only includes the vanilla Mi 11. Xiaomi will launch Mi 11 Ultra, alongside Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Lite on March 29. The alleged Geekbench listing of Mi 11 Ultra shows a Xiaomi phone with model number M2102K1C, powered by what is believed to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC.

This could be the top RAM variant of Mi 11 Ultra. The phone scored 1,132 in single-core and 3,488 in multi-core tests.

Recently, Xiaomi Senior Product Marketing Manager and Global Spokesperson Daniel D shared on Twitter that Mi 11 Ultra will pack a Silicon-Oxygen Anode battery that is similar to what is present in electric vehicles. This allows the phone to be charged faster and while Daniel did not mention the charging speed, it is expected to support 67W wired charging, 67W wireless charging, and 10W reverse charging. Mi 11 Ultra may pack a 5,000mAh battery.

Mi 11 Ultra is expected to feature a 6.8-inch curved OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. In terms of optics, the phone has been tipped to pack a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 48-megapixel wide-angle shooter, and another 48-megapixel sensor with a periscopic telephoto lens with 120x zoom capability. • YouTube Will Lift Ban on Trump Channel When Risk of Violence Decreases: CEO
FILE PHOTO: YouTube logo at the YouTube Space LA in Playa Del Rey, Los Angeles, California, United States October 21, 2015.

Alphabet Inc’s YouTube will lift its suspension on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s channel when it determines the risk of real-world violence has decreased, the company’s CEO, Susan Wojcicki, said on Thursday.

YouTube suspended Trump’s channel for violating policies against inciting violence after the assault on the U.S. Capitol by the former president’s supporters in January.

“The channel remains suspended due to the risk of incitement to violence,” said Wojcicki, speaking in an interview with the head of the Atlantic Council think tank. She said recent warnings by the Capitol police about a potential new attack on Thursday showed that an “elevated violence risk still remains.”

Wojcicki said that YouTube would determine the risk of violence by looking at signals such as government statements and warnings, increased law enforcement around the country and violent rhetoric on the platform itself.

In the aftermath of the Jan 6. riot, social media companies including Twitter Inc and Facebook Inc banned Trump’s accounts on their platforms. Twitter’s ban is permanent, while Facebook has sent the case to its independent oversight board to decide whether Trump’s accounts should be unblocked.

“We will turn the account back on,” Wojcicki said. “But it will be when we see the reduced law enforcement in capitals in the U.S, if we don’t see different warnings coming out of government agencies, those would all be signals to us that it would be safe to turn the channel back on.”

Trump spokesman Jason Miller did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Security around the Capitol was tight on Thursday after police warned that a militia group might try to attack it to mark a key date on the calendar of the baseless QAnon conspiracy theory.

Under YouTube’s policies, if an account has three “strikes” in a 90 day period it will be terminated. The suspension of Trump’s account, for a minimum of a week, was because it gained a first “strike.” YouTube also indefinitely disabled comments under videos on the channel.

Major social media companies have been under pressure to curb conspiracy theories, violent rhetoric and other abuses on their sites.

A report from the Election Integrity Partnership, a coalition of misinformation researchers, said in a report this week that YouTube provided a space for video misinformation to be shared easily across multiple platforms and that this content functioned to provide “evidence” for misleading narratives.
