Barbie Release Date

While Warner Bros. has announced that Barbie will be released in theatres on July 21, 2023, the company has also published the first picture of Margot Robbie in her role as a live-action version of Mattel’s famed doll.

According to credible sources, the live-action rendition of the legendary toy will be released in theatres next year. Robbie’s Barbie is seen driving around in a pink convertible with a significant smile in the first look shot, which you can see below. Will Ferrell, who will allegedly portray the CEO of a toy manufacturer, and Ryan Gosling will also appear in the film.

Greta Gerwig partners with Marriage Story’s Noah Baumbach, who previously helmed Lady Bird and Little Woman and directed and co-wrote the film. In an interview with British Vogue, Robbie previously said that a project like this would be an excellent match. “There’s a lot of baggage with it! There are also a lot of emotional attachments.”

Barbie Movie Cast

“Barbie” has been in the works since 2014, with Amy Schumer formerly attached to play the leading role.

Supporting roles are also played by Will Ferrell, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Harsh Nef, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Emerald Fennell.

Robbie also serves as a producer on the film, collaborating with co-producer Tom Ackerley via their firm, LuckyChap Entertainment. Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films and David Heyman of “Harry Potter” have agreed to collaborate on the project.

A new “Lord of the Rings” film and a preview of “The Meg 2” were shown at CinemaCon, along with a sequel announcement for “The Color Purple.”

Barbie First Look

Ackerley, Mattel’s Brenner, and Heyday Film’s David Heyman produce “Barbie” through LuckyChap with Robbie. Josey McNamara of LuckyChap and Ynon Kreiz of Mattel are executive producers.

Robbie said in a 2021 interview that adopting the treasured toy “comes with a lot of baggage… and many emotional links.” It does, however, provide several innovative ideas for dealing with the situation. Everyone is aware “of “Barbie” and instantly thinks, “I know what that movie is going to be,” but when they learn that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, they think, “Oh, maybe I don’t know.” After all, who knows what that movie will be.”

Early this year, production began in London. “Barbie” is one of numerous Mattel properties considered for cinematic adaptation. A variety of projects are in the works, including projects based on the Magic 8 Ball, Hot Wheels, “Masters of the Universe,” Polly Pocket, Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots, and vintage dolls Chatty Cathy and Betsy Wetsy.

Barbie and Ken

Thanks to the casting gods, Barbie is now a live-action series. The film stars Margot Robbie as Barbie, with Ryan Gosling co-starring as Ken, the famous love interest of Barbie. Assume Robbie’s “Wolf of Wall Street” costume foreshadows the Barbie verse. We already know Robbie can pull off an all-pink wardrobe in the claimed story of Barbie abandoning her doll fantasy world only to be confronted by reality.

Her company LuckyChap Entertainment also produced Harley Quinn’s Birds of Prey and the critically acclaimed #MeToo revenge comedy-drama “Promising Young Woman.” Robbie made her producing debut with “I, Tonya,” and since has worked on Hulu’s “Dollface” and Netflix’s “Maid.”

Barbie Movie Plot

There isn’t much information available about the live-action Barbie film, but it seems that the creative team behind it aims to make something out of the ordinary for a film based on a line of dolls. Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, best known for independent films such as Lady Bird and Marriage Plot, are an unusual pairing to bring into the fold. It adds to the intrigue of potential tale ideas.
